ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED, 14-15, CONDUIT STREET, LONDON, W. TELEGRAMS: "ROLHEADRolls-Royce telegram address," LONDON. TELEPHONES: 1654, 1655, 1656 GERRARD. DEPARTMENTAL MEMO. This column is for Name of Person addressed: Mr. Johnson DATE: 7-6-12 Mr. L.F. Gjers of Middlesborough who has four 40-50HP Rolls-Royce cars, who called in the other day, while waiting for his wife, to have a chat with me, as he often does, discussed the question of the balance of our wheels, and says, that he finds that some of the Rudge-Whitworth supplied on our chassis are very much out of balance. This, he finds, is because some of the security bolts are put so near the valve, and none put on the opposit side of the wheel to balance these, that one side of the wheel is a good deal heavier than the other. He finds that this can easily be obviated if the security bolts were put in, in such a position as to have, more or less the effect of balancing the weight of the valve. He tells me that after having made this alteration to his own wheels, the difference is very marked, as previously the steering of his car had a distinct wobble, this has now been entirely overcome. This matter, he thinks is of sufficient importance for us to take it up with either our Works, or the wheel makers, in order that the question of balancing shall be borne in mind when supplying or fitting wheels to our cars. I promised Mr. Gjers that I would bring the matter before the Company. L.W. Cox. Handwritten notes: Vertical left: O/S/J Thank you O/C I have passed this on to your people W.
