EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

[text crossed out] carburetters or stays at any speed of the engine up to 1865 r.p.m.

Carburetter stays.

We notice that the nuts and bolts that hold the stay brackets to the lower half of the crankcase are only locked by the ordinary spring washer and in the event of one of these nuts coming loose, there is nothing to prevent the bolt from falling into the crankcase and we suggest that after tightening the nuts, the ends of the bolts should be riveted up or else a plate should be fitted over the bolt heads on the inside of the crankcase.

The accessibility of the carburetter is the same as on the standard Eagle 1X. The float chamber is difficult to get at, and it is impossible to remove the float without first dropping the carburetter lower half.

Apart from the points raised above, the new scheme is very good indeed; no trouble was experienced during the 50 hrs. and during the run there were several 9-Eagles run on the next test bed fitted with the old single stay and in each case the new scheme felt much better and looked a better all round job than the old one.

With regard to the jacketed elbows, we would recommend that great care should be taken in the fettling of these pipes and make the bore as smooth as possible, on account of the danger of upsetting distribution, as this trouble of leaving lumps of metal on the bore of the pipes often helped to cause the poor distribution [text crossed out] contd :-
