Thank Mr Nadin for having sent me samples, and I was in hopes that they were getting Grover washers a better fit to the bolt. I am sorry that they are still so roughly and coarsely made. With reference to the nut, although this seems to be made to the dimensions I sent, I think it would be as well if we endeavoured to make the hexagon part a little longer. This could be done by adding slightly to the length of the nut and robbing the circular part slightly. By gaining .025 each way making a total of .05 I think the proportions of the nut would look better and more area for the spanner to fit on. The machine work on the hexagon part does not seem as if it had been performed with sharp tools, and as we have a good many of these to make I should try several ways of milling them. What seems to be required is a readily adjustable collar to go between the cutters, an ample supply of cutters which must have teeth on the outer circumference and at least one face, possibly 2, so that they can be reversed after getting blunt on the edges. The cutters also should be as small in diameter as possible if the nut is to run underneath the mandril. It is very possible, however, that the use of larger cutters and feed straight at the cutter on the centre line might be a quicker [Left Margin Text] X/221 | ||
