- 7 - CARBURETTER & PETROL PUMP. See Ex.S.406-7. Carter downdraught triple venturi type carburetter. "A.C." Type Vacuum assisted petrol pump, fitted between No.1 and 2 cylinders. Petrol Piping. Piping runs along outside of left hand frame member (opposite to exhaust pipe) and crosses front behind radiator grills. INDUCTION AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. The Exhaust and Intake Manifolds are cast so as to form a hot spot around induction manifold. The amount of heat bye-passed to this hot spot is controlled by a thermostatic spring. Induction and exhaust manifolds are held in place with four studs and six bridge pieces. A "hot air pocket" formed by a brass pressing and asbestos sheet attached to a flat on the exhaust manifold communicates with the "Climatic Control" on the carburetter via an asbestos covered copper pipe. Heat is conveyed along the latter by conduction. STARTER MOTOR. Type "Delco-Remy" 4.450°/Dia. carried off clutch casing. DYNAMO. Delco-Remy. Belt driven. Ventilated. GEARBOX. See Ex.S.416 and 417. This is made in C.I. including covers. Three speeds synchromesh on 2nd. and 3rd. Buick Type synchroniser. Helical gears throughout. The thrusts are balanced out by giving a lead to the driving splines. Note that the angle of spline is not the same as the angle of the gear teeth, owing to the difference in radii and consequent tooth load. STEERING GEAR. See Ex.S.395 and Ex.S.411. | ||
