Cold weather testing in France, focusing on carburation, induction pipes and the viscosity of lubricating oil.

R5/M18.11.25. x8080 x986 Now will be the time in France to test whether we have sufficient heating to the carburetter etc, and satisfactory induction pipes, to ensure good distribution in the cold months we are about to experience. Would it be advantageous to go still further and find a colder part of France, or anywhere else on the continent, or in Canada? My own impression in driving is that I am thankful that we have fitted the cars with a proper shutter system, and can now keep the temperature under the bonnet nearly as warm as in genial times. Some information may be obtained also of how the temperature affects the consumption, and the advantages to be obtained from using a thinner oil. For a long time I have not favoured the use of thick lubricating oil except for the accessories. I do not think however this has been acted upon as with the cars I have here, when cold, it is difficult to move the change speed levers. R.{Sir Henry Royce} RECEIVED | ||
