PROVISIONAL SPEC No 1007/40 :- MR. BUCKLEY. TO R.H / C.R.H / CTS{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} Re. - Self adjusting tappets This device in common with similar hydraulic tappets suffers from the defects that the thing will be costly to produce, as there are a number of parts machined to close limits, & also that the efficient working of the device will be soon interrupted by small pieces of dirt in the oil. Also, its operation depends upon the seizing up of the sleeve in the body & this must occur every time the engine warms up after being cold. This seizing up of these two surfaces is bound to have an adverse effect upon them, & in time they may fail to unseize when cool. In this case all of the advantages of the self adjusting tappet are gone. Rn{Mr Robinson}/JRS | ||
