Visit of Mr.Ward. 14.7.36.
-----------------------------

The following are the points on which further information is required in connection with the coachwork position:-

No.1. Bentley with more access to Front Seats.

Particulars are required of the bonnet shape for the 2" wider dash.

The specification is required for this Bentley body and this is ready and will be forwarded within the next few days.

No.2. Bentley with more access to Front Seats.

As this body is intended to be used in conjunction with the experimental stiffened up frame it is desired to use special stiffeners on the body sills of maximum depth, consisting of a sheet of light gauge steel laid over the outside of the sill, and having a deep flute on the bottom edge for stiffening the deep section laterally. This stiffener is to be adequately joined to the scuttle along the length of the scuttle base, and should extend right through to the rear wheel arch.

Some accession to the lateral rigidity of the body sills is required, but as the present body has wooden bottom sills, and this new one will be of steel, there will be a considerable increase in this direction. It is very difficult to add anything to the lateral rigidity of the steel sill on account of the limitations imposed by chassis features.

Provision should be made in the hollow section scuttle armature so that it can be bolted either solidly or flexibly to the dashboard, allowing for about a dozen bolts in the former case.

No.3. Phantom III Steel Body on 38-Ex.

Mr.Ward is waiting for instructions to proceed with a 2" wider dash and 'E' steering on this body as proposed, and will also require information setting
