The battery was then fully recharged and allowed to stand on open circuit for 10 days. The fall in specific gravity varied from .004 minimum to .006 maximum over the whole battery. The battery was then put on discharge at 34.5 amperes to 10.2 volts, i.e., at the end of the open circuit period, without previously charging, and the duration of discharge was 1 hour 50 minutes. The battery was fully recharged and the discharge repeated, and the duration of discharge was 1 hour 53½ minutes. We have not opened up the battery for examination, considering it inadvisable and unnecessary for us to disturb the elements, but from the above data we feel that you will agree with us that the battery is quite satisfactory with regard to capacity, charge holding and recharge characteristics. We ourselves consider that a normal life of at least 400 cycles should be obtainable without difficulty. We cannot account for the premature failure on your test, but it seems to us that this must have been due to some cause external to the battery.
