Future Cars.

As we intend on all future cars to have independent front suspension, it is possible that we may never again experience judders whatever brakes we fit. At the same time it seems advisable to build all future front brakes with the toggle shaft (when one is used) so arranged that it normally rotates in the same direction as the drum when the brakes are applied. We do not think it necessary to complicate our brakes with balance weights unless judders occur. It also seems advisable to ensure adequate cooling, and this will incidentally help to get rid of squeaks, fading, diving and excessive wear.

The Experimental Dept. will investigate the possibilities of brake systems which have no unbalanced moments of inertia in the operation. Although at present such systems are theoretically less perfect than our own, we may be able to improve them, and at least they will not compel us to fit a counterbalancing weight which we prefer to hide. The first of these experimental brake systems should be on test in a few weeks.
