TO BA. FROM AJS. Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} V 8310 AJS1/M2.7.25. EAC. 7. GEARBOX. We send herewith drawing LeC. 2093., shewing alterations and additions to W. series 40/50 gearbox to produce rear suspension scheme for the above. The alterations consist in modifying the rear arms and incidentally the 1st. and 2nd. speed slider rear guide. The slider itself also has to be a little longer. In addition, the drawing shews the rear suspension details - (refer to LeC. 2096. for front.) The whole scheme is the one recently patented for the EAC. 3 speed box (now cancelled), in which the front end of box is controlled more or less concentrically with engine shaft in a trunnion, and the rear suspended by two flexible steel plates, one of which allows no transverse motion of box, whereas the other plate, by moving round its top bolt which acts as a fulcrum, imposes no strains on the box due to frame deflections, except those small strains due to the load required to flex the suspension plates.
