VISIT OF MESSRS. S. SMITH & SONS.
Tuesday 28th Oct. 1941.

During the visit of Mr. Nicholls, Mr. Hurn and Mr. Moss of Messrs. S. Smith & Sons, instrument-board design was discussed with a view to finalising a design for the Myth car.

The painting of the instrument-board submitted by Messrs. Smith was discussed and it was decided that the wireless controls round the bezels of the speedometer clock and petrol gauge were too advanced for the board at present under consideration. The type of ignition-switch, the windscreen wiper operating knobs were approved, also the arrangement of the windscreen opening handle. The type and the arrangement of the click-over switches were also considered to be most desirable. The general appearance of the ignition switch met with approval.

It was suggested that the ash-tray, as shown, was impracticable due to the windscreen wiper mechanism, also that the doors to the cubby-holes were undesirable on the somewhat low-priced automobile under consideration.

The wireless control was discussed at some length and Messrs. Smith were asked, if possible, to design this as a number of concentric bezels round the ignition switch, which would, of course, also deal with the lights. An accessible place has to be found for the cigar-lighter which can be reached by both occupants of the front seats. Messrs. Smith were, therefore, asked to produce another sketch incorporating these points and also instruments as illustrated on the Rolls-Royce painting, but with a clock included in the instrument dial and not the speedometer dial.

When the sketch is approved, it was suggested that Messrs. Smith could with advantage approach Messrs. Lucas and Willmot-Breeden on the question of the switch and windscreen operating device.
