To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Ry. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. c. SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} X5663 EFC2/T23.4.28. DYNAMO OUTPUT. X8664 Your ref. R2/M18.4.28. We are giving good attention to the matter of a dynamo for a less falling output with speed. This can be done to some extent by altering the shape of the pole pieces, i.e. making the air gap taper to a wider amount where the armature leaves the pole, but at the same time somewhat increasing the cutting in. We had already got out 26 slot armatures with suitable numbers of conductors for doing this more fundamentally and satisfactorily to the necessary extent. With the pole piece alteration we can only go about half way in this direction. We only departed from the 28 slots after very careful consideration of the magnetic circuit through the slots, having decided that this would not make a very satisfactory job. In accordance with your request we are cancelling instructions for the 26 slot armatures, and we will have another good look at the possibility of doing it with the 28 slot, the conductor size being increased as before. We hope to be able to send you a lay-out giving the appearance of the slot. EFC. | ||
