We desire to confirm the conversation that we had with you at our works yesterday in connection with one of our racing engines which you require for experimental purposes. Hitherto it has been part of our policy, for obvious reasons, not to supply any of our racing engines under any circumstances whatever to any individual or concern. The amount of research work that has been undertaken in the development of our engine to its present form has, of course, been enormous, equally so has been the cost, and naturally therefore we have guarded very jealously all details on our engine so far as this has been possible. The machines have been retained in the hands of our own riders and no publicity which could be avoided has been given to any of the technical details. We welcome, however, your request to let you have one of our engines, insofar that we regard this in our mutual interests and your reputation is such that we feel you are the only concern in Europe with whom we would be prepared to discuss this matter. We shall be only too pleased to place an engine at your disposal, provided you will give us an under-taking that any information that we give to you - and we shall be quite prepared to give you whatever information may be required - will be regarded confidentially and at the same time that you will give us an undertaking to supply us with any information that you derive in the development of the engine and carrying out your tests. | ||
