Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X6051 ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/GEA.6/EB.9.6.32 With reference to the 22 old type speedometers returned to makers from Experimental Department, for their inspection and report. We have now received a letter from the A.T. Speedometer Company, copy of which we give you below :- "We have now had an opportunity of carefully "inspecting the instruments returned to us, in "connection with your letter of the 23rd ult., and "we find that all these instruments are of types, "parts of which we have, unfortunately, already "considerable stocks and, therefore, are of no value "to us. Even in regard to repairs, etc. we have "ample stocks here of such parts, as a matter of fact, "considerably more than we are ever likely to be able to use "We greatly regret, therefore, that we cannot make "any offer for these instruments. We have, ourselves, "found it always extremely difficult to dispose of "obsolete types of instruments, when we have had any "quantity in excess of our requirements, and it has "always been our habit to write these off over a period "of two or three years and then scrap. "We await now your esteemed instructions as to the "disposal of these instruments". Unless you can could offer suggestions as to any other use the speedometers could be put to, we propose to accept their suggestion to scrap the instruments referred to. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
