re. 164-XJ. Col. Peacock.

The above chassis has today been put up to me for acceptance test. I have passed it as being up to standard for its type and have declared it off test accordingly.

I do not consider, however, that the chassis as it is, is suitable for Col. Peacock, and recommend that the new type inertia slipper drive should be fitted. I feel certain that if the car is delivered to Col. Peacock as it is it will be the subject of a complaint for bus knocks.

I want to make it quite clear, however, that this chassis is well up to our present standard in this respect, but this happens to be a feature on which Col. Peacock is very keen, and in regard to which his previous car has been returned to the Works several times, and on one occasion we even went so far as to fit him a new engine.

It is important, therefore, we should be satisfied we have done the very best possible with his new car prior to it being handed over to him.
