H S Y7040. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Pistons made in RR.50 Alloy. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}32/E29.9.30 X)040 x5040 Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} I have just seen Standardisation Sheet X.No.7040/5040 dated the 4.9.30 in respect of the adoption of the above for both the Phantom and 20/25 chassis. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, I see, has said against his signature that he assumes a 10,000 miles test has been made and that it was OK. PN{Mr Northey} mentions that there does not seem to be any indication as to on what grounds the change is suggested. I gather that a 10,000 mile test has not been made as there is no reference to it on the sheet, and before agreeing to its standardisation, I should like to know what experience we have of this metal when used for pistons in our cars - in other words why has it been suggested that in this case we can depart from our usual procedure.
