Dear C.J.,

I think it would be nice if we would find out what the other people are doing for vibrations before we show ours off. We have been out this morning with two cars, one of which Platford says was like the one returned to you and the other was a little worse as regards vibration. There are no rattles on either of these cars with new camshafts, only you can feel in your feet a very slight vibration at 22 and 44 miles per hour on the direct drive.

The only way I know of showing these cars off satisfactorily is to put them on a lower gear, say the second, in which case, to get 2000 revs. out of the engine they would have to run nearly 40 miles per hour; they could then be pulled up slightly by the side brakes with a full load with the throttle wide open and pass slowly through all the different speeds until the car comes to rest.

I am afraid that they have technically caught us napping this year, and one sees that most of the people who are really doing well are in the same happy state of not making alterations until some of the competitors get in front. It is quite evident to me, before I see the Exhibition, that we shall have to make a forward move very soon. I think
