It must be remembered in conjunction with the voltage control that the automatic switch requires to be fairly sensitive because the voltage of the dynamo will probably never exceed 15 or 16, and unless this makes the automatic switch act it would never get in, whereas with a third brush control the voltage climbs up very high until the automatic switch does go in. (12) X.4381. Regarding a hand operated charging switch, we are somewhat of divided opinion. Personally, I think it is a very desirable thing to have for various reasons. If you had such an apparatus, we suggest that it might be combined with the lighting switch. I suggest that it should be the first notch of the lighting switch, and remains on while any lights are on, and can remain on when all lights are off. As this would cause a certain amount of complication I am not pressing the point, but I think it may be possible that a user may add another switch after he had had experience with the car, which naturally would be very undesirable. | ||
