Dear Sirs,

We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 19th inst., and we thank you very much for having assisted us by collecting faded liquid from a number of gauges.

We must confess that at the moment of writing we are still completely mystified as to the date at which any change was made in the liquid, the fading of which, from the valuable information which you have given us, is obviously in some way connected with exposure to sunlight.

We have instituted here two separate series of tests for fading, one by the Paint & Colour Manufacturers Research Association, and another by experts in the manufacture of quartz and ultra-violet ray producing lamps, so that in a
