RE. FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. X9940 X1559

(1) In reference to Mr. Johnson's memo. I do not anticipate any very serious extra trouble or delay with these. I believe that with small modifications the scheme we have in hand will give satisfaction.
(2) The great point to make these brakes passably satisfactory is I believe to arrange them so that they release themselves by the deflection of the front springs caused by their action. At the same time if we over-do this, they will be found to jagger backwards, that is why we did not use this feature at first. It however appears to be unavoidable.
(3) Much could be done by a parallel control of the front axle by radius rods, but we fear the complication renders it prohibitive. We are however making a trial.
(4) I have conceived that we might similarly control the axle with the present radius rod, plus a large shock damper, the arm of which would be used to prevent torsional movement of the front axle. The combined use of this shock damper as a radius rod and a shock damper forms patentable matter, and may be of some use, as it would appear to be less complicated than the multiplicity of rods and shock dampers to obtain the same results.
(5) I do not know whether the extra shock dampers are applied because of the front brakes, or because the
