X.7480. DAW c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/16/H20.11.29. re. PHANTOM II. CLUTCH LUBRICATION. Further to your DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M16.10.29, and our EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}21/H30.10.29., I am now able to report that a new engine was put on test for unit testing with the clutch internal parts built up dry, and before the engine was run oil was injected through the hole provided in the clutch shaft, to the extent of one-and-half syringe full (no trouble to inject). After test the engine went through its inspection and we made a special point of dismantling the clutch parts, including the universal joint, and found that the bearings and universal joint were amply lubricated, in fact oil was actually overflowing from the end. We noticed that this clutch had a modified lubrication scheme fixed, in which small holes had been drilled through the sphere of the clutch shaft G76581, thereby feeding the universal joint direct. This scheme is now coming through as standard. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
