| COPY Jack Barclay Limited, George Street, Hanover Sq, London, W.1. JDB/PWR 10th January, 1934. Major L.W.Cox, Messrs Bentley Motors (1931) Ld. 16, Conduit Street, W.1. Dear Major Cox, I think I ought to report to you that the brakes on my Bentley demonstration car are definitely unsafe, immediately the car has been washed, and to get them in reasonable working order takes approximately one mile or five minutes driving. After travelling for this distance, and having applied the brakes many times while so doing, the front wheel brakes start to operate, but only under a certain strain and with a terrific judder in the region of the front axle. This goes on for a little while and then all the brakes are perfectly normal. In other words, the car has to be driven for at least half a mile, or approximately three minutes, before the braking is efficient; after which it is everything that could be desired. Yours sincerely, (sgd) Jack Barclay. | ||
