I enclose copy of a letter received from Jack Barclay to-day on the subject of the brakes of his Trials Car (B-29-AE). I would add that he has expressed himself rather more forcibly verbally than he does in this letter, although admittedly in the letter he does go so far as to say that in his opinion they are definitely unsafe. It does seem possible that certain of our owners when their new Bentleys are delivered to them will, if the car suffers in the way that Jack Barclay's does, probably have an accident before they realise how careful they have to be under certain conditions. This may even get the car a very bad name for dangerous brakes. Yesterday Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} showed me reference to this question in ES/HP19.12.33 Page 3, paragraph 4, dealing with the respective merits of Ferodo and ANR, with which latter the brakes are at present shod. It would seem from this that you are at present debating at the Works which of these two materials to use, and maybe the criticisms from Mr.Pass (see sep note) and Mr.Barclay will have a bearing on your decision.
