Es. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} c. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} REPORT NO. W.20 - BIG END FAILURE. GORDON CLARK - CHASSIS B.161-DK. With reference to the big-end failure on this car, whilst we agree that, under the circumstances, there was no alternative but to let the customer have his car back with a minimum delay, we consider it is highly undesirable to allow a chassis which has once suffered from this trouble to continue running without the crankshaft drilling. Presumably, the best way to deal with the matter would be to have a floating power unit of both the 3½ and 4¼-litre types to be used in such emergencies. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
