Myth Petrol Tank.

In answer to your queries in memo. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/JH.2.6.41. about the Myth petrol tank to PL.427 and PL.449.

(1) We appreciate that we have a rather sharp radius in the corner where the tank fittings are fitted, but until the makers of the tank have made their comments we prefer to leave it, the alternative is dropping the tank and reducing the ground clearance or making a separate patch.

(2) Filler tube. We do not agree that excessive distortion will take place due to lightly welding round the flange to make a seal. Vauxhalls for instance appear to do it, however, if it does distort slightly what harm is done. Re the difficulty of flanging the tube; an alternative way would be to stick the end of the tube into a hole in the tank and weld round the edge of the hole. We have followed the method that was agreed to by yourself on the Rippletto tank. As regards the re-entrant portion of the filler tube, we could no doubt produce many worse spot welding operations than that.

(3) Baffles.

We do not agree with your criticism of the baffles. If they had been put in purely as baffles we should not have had them at all. They are really stiffeners, one must remember that the tank is long and of shallow section; it is also a 3 point mounting, the stiffners we therefore consider should be attached to both the top and bottom halves of the tank as a re-enforcement.
