re Petrol Tank - Myth.
PL.427 sheets 1 & 2. & PL.449.

We had occasion to look at the schemes for the Myth Petrol Tank and have noticed one or two features which we feel may give trouble. We appreciate that as a bought-out commodity it will be submitted to the makers for their comments but we would like to shew them the best we know.

ON PL.427 (Sheet 2) the raised face to take the tank fittings has a very sharp corner, which we feel could not be pressed. The corner is very hard.

We are very doubtful about the method of attaching the filler snout to the tank on PL.449. It is shewn spot welded and subsequently seam welded to form a petrol joint.

We feel that this latter operation will cause the tank to distort badly due to heating up locally a very stiff portion of the tank pressing.

We have doubts as to whether it is possible to flange the filler tube as shewn whilst under the re-entrant portion of the flange it would appear very difficult to get the spot welding electrode in position.

We suggest that the method of gas welding the baffle (PL.427 sheet 2) into the second half of the tank after assembly will prove difficult since the baffle flange will not touch down evenly on the tank skin. We would have preferred two half baffles which overlap at the centre with a small sideways clearance.

No doubt we shall be able to get made one tank for the first car, which is our immediate interest but we suggest that an early opportunity should be taken to contact the makers on these design features.
