X4305 To HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from R. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. BJ. RG. {Mr Rowledge} R5/M27.12.22. RE. HAWK-NORTHCLIFFE X.3408. X.4305. We are very pleased with the behaviour of the inductionpipe on the Hawk-Northcliffe and we should not lightly depart from the principles involved in this arrangement. It is the one proposed to try for "Seagull" though we believe the still more simple arrangement as applied to Goshawk would be satisfactory if sufficient heat is added directly after the carburetter, such as around the throttle valve. Distribution, in both aero engines and car engines, both hot and cold, with good and bad petrol should be one of the most important features to study, and we should get some standard tests with standard badness of fuel.
