Improvements to the chassis frame and spring design.

18th January 1911 C.J. (2) 18/1/11 this to be somewhat improved, as well as the fact that the fixing of the half spring is carried further out of the coach- builders' way rearwards. The slight amount we are raising the frame, viz. 3/4", will have some benefit on this end of the chassis but as we are allowing for greater action of the springs, that is, clearance before it bumps, the advantage of this allowance cannot be obtained unless we forego this extra range of springing. we think our old (1910) type to have sufficient room for the action of the axle had it not been for the outrigger carrying the 1/4-elliptic spring colliding with the top of the spring when thick springs were used. Now the springs are longer they will not be so thick but will be made with a fewer number of thicker plates so that we [Handwritten note left side] Design of new back axle July 1910.
