We thank you for your letter of the 13th inst. in connection with a D.W.S. Permanent Jack which has been incorrectly marked 'Near-side' and is actually an 'Off-side' Jack. We regret that this error has occurred and the matter has been taken up with the Works immediately, to ensure that there is no repetition of this trouble. An Off-side Jack will be sent to you immediately in exchange for the Near-side one we have received from you. While on the subject of 'Near-side' and 'Off-side' Jacks, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that recently we have had to change over a number of Jacks which have been fitted to the 40/50 Chassis at Derby, as these have been found to be fitted incorrectly with regard to 'Near-side' and 'Off-side', although the markings were in these cases, quite correct. Perhaps you will be good enough to look into this matter. To identify the Jacks more easily in the future, we are attaching a label to the shaft, denoting 'Near-side' or 'Off-side' in addition to stamping the jack-heads.
