For the attention of Mr. C.T. Salt.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 27th ult. addressed to Mr. Taub we have used the Mercer type indicators for our cylinder bore wear measurements for some considerable time.

These can be obtained from Messrs. J.E. Baty & Co., of Victoria Street, London, and are graduated in either 1/1000 or 1/10,000 ins., we have both types in use, and of course they are used with master ring gauges. Our usual method of measurement on all "Straight" comparison tests is to take the bore measurement at the point of maximum wear in the "crosswise" and "lengthwise" directions, after every predetermined distance of road duration test, thus the cylinder head assembly only is removed, the pistons etc. remaining undisturbed.

We would appreciate if you would let us know what methods you employ on this class of work, and any reactions you have.

Yours faithfully,
VAUXHALL MOTORS LIMITED.

R.N. GALE.
Power Unit Field Engineer
