2.PER.II.

we have today been busy changing the rubbers in the front engine mounting. The rubbers which were fitted were tabulated grade 'C'. we have replaced these by grade 'D', the softest of the four sets of rubbers. this job has taken us well on into the afternoon as they are difficult to take in and out, the radiator having to be dismantled. we hope to obtain some tests, with these new rubbers fitted, today.

meanwhile we have also taken down the water pump and closed the outlet aperture from 11/16" diameter to 3/8" diameter. This cuts down the area approx. 60%. This is to try and overcome the loss of water, which we are experiencing, during every run - i.e. one gallon of water. You will of course understand that this is to get over having to use the radiator cap with the valve in, which we hope will not be necessary.

FLEXIBLE MOUNTING OF THE ENGINE.

On looking over the various parts of the engine, there are several rigid attachments, which we believe are detrimental to obtaining the results from the flexible engine mounting of the engine,as desired.

(1)
there is the petrol pipe from the filter to the petrol pump which failed yesterday. This is very short and stiff. As stated yesterday there should be a large coil in this pipe to obtain flexibility.

(2)
The exhaust outlet pipe from the hot spot of the carburetter to the bracket on the frame. this pipe is very rigid and a big strain is placed upon the unions of the pipe.

(3)
there is the exhaust pipe which is very rigid.

(4)
The connection from the water pump to the radiator. This pipe is very short and rigid.
