[Handwritten Note:] Cheaper Cam pips. We can use the undercut for withdrawing.

IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR.

The formation of the cam on this car has a slot to receive the bakelite rotor. This makes it almost impossible to withdraw the cam off the spindle in case of rusting or excessive tightness. On previous cams we had a withdrawal tool which located on the driving peg, by which the cam could be extracted. There is not sufficient room at the bottom of the present cam to obtain any purchase for removing same.

Will you please look into this and see whether a withdrawal tool can be made to remove this cam.

Another feature is that a 3 BA. screw is used to hold the cam on the spindle, which to us appears to be weak and will very likely be screwed off when tightening up.

[Handwritten Note:] 3.BA is same as 20HP

We have examined the oil levels of the shock dampers, and up to the present can say there is no serious oil leak. As a matter of fact the front dampers have lost no oil. The rear we are not certain that the heighth of the oil was correct when the car left Derby, but very little oil has been added, and there are no outward signs of any oil having leaked from them.

ROAD SPRINGS.

Two very nasty squeaks developed in the road springs, one from the O.S.F. and the other from the O.S.R. We have been able to cure the O.S.R. one by forcing oil through the anchorage pin, but the front we have not been able to cure so far. We have liberally dosed the spring with oil, and probably the squeak will disappear with running.

BONNET.

We had a very nasty knock from the N.S.R. bottom corner of the bonnet. There was no clearance of the bonnet at this point. We have therefore given 1/16" clearance and cured the knock. We believe that this came about by the changing of the radiator mounting during the last rush. Therefore we just mentioned this to show that it was not due to undue bonnet movement.
