X1402 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} EFC3/T25.10.20. X.1402. - VIBRATOR REGULATORS. A short while ago we had an opportunity of inspecting a small vibrator type regulator from an Argo car, which operated with a Disco plain shunt wound dynamo. The construction and finish of this regulator have no special merit, but the regulator was rather interesting on account of a novel point which it incorporated, this being the use of a double resistance for the field circuit with two pairs of contact points in tandem, so that two steps of insertion of resistance into the field circuit were obtained. The idea will be understood by reference to the diagram which we give. It also incorporated the feature of operating the cutout and regulator from the same core and therefore necessarily the same amount of compounding for the vibrator. We tried the apparatus with an ordinary shunt wound dynamo for our purposes but the amount of compounding seemed to be carried very much too far. This regulator did not merely dither like the Bijur, but worked with a very much greater period, so slowly in fact that the movement of the lever could be followed with the eye. At the same time, although it seemed Contd. | ||
