X1280 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.4/KW. 1st November, 1935. Messrs. John Marston Ltd., Paul Street Works, Wolverhampton. For the attention of Mr. Southall. Dear Sirs, We received the Mark VI matrix to E.87003 yesterday, but are definitely not satisfied with the standard of workmanship on this job, the defects being (1) one side of the matrix was out of square, resulting in the width of the matrix at the top (see attached sketch) being .250" less than that shown on drawing, and (2) the matrix had been damaged at approximately the centre of its rear face, and then obviously patched up. Were we not urgently requiring the radiator into which this matrix will be fitted, we should return the latter to you for correction. As matters stand we shall be compelled to build up the defective edge with wedge-shaped metal strips in order to keep the top tank central. In view of the fact that we are contemplating standardising these Mark VI matrices, and that this is the second defective one we have received (A Bentley matrix was returned to you recently), we should like an effort made to improve on this standard. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
