Till I had done some fast Continental Touring I had thought these brakes, with the exception of a few minor details, very good indeed and superior to the old Cen-tral brake for the following reasons ① more silent, ② more gentle pull up ③ a quick application of the brakes did not jerk one's passengers so much ④ less period vibration in Axle & transmission generally & ⑤ more clearance under Centre of Chassis, & I still think these advantages hold good in the case of 'town' or Standard Rolls-Royce Cars, the disadvan-tages appear to be rubbing after use, apparently due to distortion of shoes & the ingress of mud & water causing constant grinding noises in wet weather or after washing car - the flange on drum & Turned over edge of Cover appear to induce the entrance of mud & water. * But for fast Continental touring I do not think these brakes are as safe as the old Central brake, & the above advantages are not so apparent under these conditions, while the dis-
