With reference to the discussion on this matter at our conference with CJ at the Midland Hotel on the 19th inst., I should be glad if you could arrange for the necessary instructions to be issued to the Works for the fixing of stronger springs, if it is finally settled that this may be done. Personally, I do not recommend this action, although the fact of this being advisable has been confirmed by the Experimental Dept. My recommendations are that the present standard should still hold good, except that for covered bodied cars, we should only add 50 lbs., whereas for open bodies we should add 100 lbs. Will you please let me have a copy of your instructions to the works on this matter, or should you at present not intend to make any change, please let me know this so that I can act accordingly with reference to dealing with cars at Coachbuilders and Depots, etc. for satisfactory springing.
