NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY, TEDDINGTON. (Engineering Dept.) REPORT on Wear Test of a sample of bonded asbestos brake lining material supplied by Messrs. Morgan, Crossley & Co. Ltd. of Manchester, for whom the test was made. ------------------------------------------ From the measurements of the friction torque the total energy absorbed during the test is calculated and from this the 'wear figure' is obtained by calculating the reduction in thickness caused by the absorption of one million foot lbs. of energy per square inch of material. This figure varies for bonded asbestos materials from 0."004 to 0".015. At the present time the wear may be classified as follows:- Wear figure below 0".004 abnormally good. " " 0.004 to 0.006 very good. " " 0.006 to 0.009 good. " " 0.009 to 0.013 fair. " " over 0.013 inferior. ENCLOSURE No 700 JUSTSO | ||
