Contd. X.3555 R.R. Distribution Board. X.1109. -2- R1/14.8.20. I think we should more nearly follow the 6.EX style with such improvement as inspection of this suggests. X.1109 When passing a fixing screw through the aluminium base the bush should be round and fairly thin so that a metal washer of fair diameter and thickness shall not force the face insulation into the hole; if, however, there is enough area of face for large and thick metal washers under the heads of the fixing screws to be used, then bushes of greater radial depth, and for face insulation thin sheets of mica and micanite, can be used. In 6.EX Distributing Box thick sheets of ebonite are used, and always too small and thin washers, so that if heated to a summer heat in a dashboard the whole fixings would be loose. It was intended to use some insulation that could stand great heat and dry air without shrinking or becoming soft enough to take an impression. Mica is the only safe material, but EFC should continually test other materials such as Bakelite, or Vulcasbestos, and several others, which can be moulded or worked into form by cutting. X.3552. Terminals with square shank, and I do not think side connections for the inspection lamp will be practical. West WitteringHenry Royce's home town and Lucas use face connections. Do not copy the fault Lucas have made on their dynamo and other terminals. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
