3. Publicity :- I am on excellent terms with the Algiers press and write also for the Nigerian Daily Times, and of course the British colonies listed above have daily papers published in English and would be glad to make use of such a story. Mr. Buckley could issue to the Home press stories complied from cables received from me, and Reuters and the Press Association would also very likely send out news paragraphs dealing with the run. The B.B.C. is also very keen on this sort of news story and are not averse to mentioning the name of the car in Empire broadcasts. The newsreel people also would be interested at the completion of the run. I also propose to make a really good travel film on the return journey showing the Phantom III among pygmies, in the jungle, in the Sahara, etc. with a view to showing it before a distinguished gathering of the Royal Geographical Society, of which I am a Fellow. I would, of course, take the opportunity of showing the car to the Governors of colonies passed through, as well as to Residents and other influential people. Cost :- The cost of three people and the car ( a Phantom III, which is the most suitable on account of the independant wheel springing) would be under £400, and I suggest that I be paid a fee of £250 for organizing the trip and undertaking all publicity in connection with it. Preparation of the Car :- The Phantom III is well suited for the conditions to be encountered and little extra preparation would be called for. Unless the brake drums interfere with the fitting of wheels with 16 in. rims, tyres of 9.00 X 16 section should be fitted. In any case the very largest tyres which possibly can be fitted. These will prevent the car sinking in soft sand and will give 1 in. extra ground clearance. | ||
