Copy to C PHANTOM REAR WHEEL AND LUGGAGE CARRIER. X8600 [crossed out] Y8400 [crossed out] R.{Sir Henry Royce} is very anxious that the above feature should reach the customer as soon as possible, and wishes every effort to be made to clear up the few details which have been causing it to hang fire. We wish the Exp. Dept. to tell us whether the latest independent fixing for the spare wheel central plate shewn on N. scheme 2441. (despatched 20/8/27.) is satisfactory. We also wish Sales to say that they agree to the side carrier with reduced plate on N. sch. 2420., and also to state that they are in accordance with keeping the wheel centre at the same height above the frame as the present standard, and tolerating a long and deep trough which will need a cover. This question was raised by Sales in SG{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}1/M8727., to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}, and we replied to the effect that we were happy with the wheel in either the raised position of N. sch. 2420., or the standard one. We gather that the Exp. Dept. are still awaiting instructions to enable them to fit up a wheel carrier for standardisation. We have already suggested that in the place of a 10,000 miles trial we bump concurrently a carrier of the old and of the new type. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
