Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Me. Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Sr. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Ru. Hx. Rd. 1113 Kingsbury. PHANTOM III. SERVICE & OWNERS' COMPLAINTS REPORTED. FAULTS REPORTED Cracked Rocker Shafts. These have been found when dealing with the modification to the rockers. Front pull rods fouling slot in frame causing wear. These rods have had to be changed. Seizure of Servo Linkage due to plating being left on the pins, causing too tight a fit of the working parts. Cross Steering Tube Joints. The drop in poundage of the loaded joints cause a low speed wobble. Internal Brake Noise. Squeaks of the internal mechanism complained of. Faulty Bijur feed plugs causing seizure of brake mechanism, Plugs not drilled have been found. ATTENTION GIVEN The cracks are attributed to stretching after the hardening process. Instructions have been given to examine more closely after stretching. Sharp edges of locating hole for pedestal to be rounded off, and to be magnestically tested. Investigation by Works found an error of .170 in the position of the slot in the frame. The drill jig is to be altered and all chassis drilled to be corrected. Works have looked into the question of preventing plating getting on to the pins. They are to be treated in Medine to remove scale. The Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}254 spring is to be brought in immediately on production. It is recommended that the ball pads shall be finished by a spherical cutter in place of lapping to obtain an even bedding. It is recommended that the internal parts shall be lubricated with H.P. grease. Cricklewood Depot use Helmoline H.M.P. grease. Upon taking up this feature with the Works it was found that plugs were being used at times untested. Instructions have been given that no bijur plugs shall be fitted without being tested. | ||
