Hanbury - Head Complaints} 27. 8. 24. ---------------- RE FRONT SPRINGS ON 40/50 HP. CHASSIS TO BE FITTED WITH FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. -------------------------------------- Although the springs in France 12½% stronger than the standard at present used on the 40/50 have given trouble, after discussing the issue with Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, it was agreed that the worst position possible to occur would be to have no springs at all upon which to fall back to enable us to deliver cars fitted with Four Wheel Brakes. To prevent possible break in output, it has been agreed that we should carry on for this week at least, permitting Messrs Firths to go ahead without obstruction in the production of the 12½% stronger springs. In regard to the question of the 25% stronger springs, the total cost, covering material and workmanship, which has been incurred by Messrs Firths, without any compensation for disorganization and loss thereby to the Firm in question, is £305. From this it will be evident that the amount of expense incurred in carrying on over a week or so with the production of 12½% stronger springs until some more definite information is obtained, will of course be considerably less than this, whilst if we stop Messrs Firths entirely at the moment it would mean they would have to discharge all the men in this Department, which would mean disorganization of their spring scheme, a point they would undoubtedly wish to discuss with us, should it occur.
