TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M13.8.26. FRAMED INSTRUMENT PATCH. X7530 We send herewith N. scheme 2224, shewing the arrangement of a framed instrument patch with interior lighting, also N. schs. 2225/6/7/8/9. shewing the A.T. clock, A.T. speedometer, Elliott ammeter, oil gauge, and thermometer respectively. In all cases the instruments are modified to suit our requirements. Also we send N. sch. 2246, shewing a Smith clock having the ordinary winding, specially designed for the purpose. We understand that Messrs Smith & Sons are prepared to make us this clock, and Sales prefer it to the A.T. Referring to N. scheme 2224. it will be noticed that we have revised the flange fitting for the instrument board controls on the lines suggested in E1/M2/8.6.26. and mentioned in BY12/H16.7.26. The actual patch of instruments is on the lines of the original one, but is held in position by four bent sheet metal pieces lined with cork stuck on. The speedometer is the small type with trip mileage indicator modified as suggested on our separate scheme by Messrs A.T.. For the first experimental sets however we suggest that Derby use the instrument without a trip. In the case of the ammeter the zero setting is obtained by direct operation of the lever before putting the instrument in the patch. The temperature regulator has the electrical connections for operating the red lamp. We suggest that for the first experiment Derby will be able to modify an existing set of instruments. The dials are to be cream, with black lettering, all of the same type, similar to the sample set supplied by Messrs Dent & Co. We shew two ways of making the lamp holder - scheme 1. uses a number of Lucas pieces, but we prefer scheme 2. which is smaller and lighter. We suggest that an experimental set of these instruments be built for Mr. Royce's car 7-EX., as it is intended that he will use this car in the south of France during the coming season. We would also like a set for fitting to the first EAC.7. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
