re. 20-HP Carburetter. Failure High Speed Jet Control.

It has been reported to us on one or two occasions that the carburation has been at fault, i.e. faulty acceleration etc. and that the fault has been found due to the high speed jet cone E51941 not being properly controlled in its position in the jet by the Spring E51712.

We have not experienced any serious trouble with this on test, although we have realised the importance of this spring being carefully fitted to make sure it works correctly.

The 20-HP car used by the Demonstration Class (89-K-6) recently had this trouble however, and on replacing the cap E50715 complete the trouble was overcome. I have obtained from them the faulty cap, which I attach to this memo to illustrate the condition these caps get into in service.

The Demonstration Class point out that this carburetter has been giving trouble for some time, and they found on inspection that the high speed jet cones was not properly controlled. It was pointed out to them that the faulty working of the spring was due to the rough handling which this cap had been put through. Against this they point out that it is difficult to withdraw this piece, even although the tools provided are used, and on going into this matter I find they are correct in their statement, it being very difficult to use the tommy bar and the box key provided.

I have brought this matter to your attention as I think it is a point which requires some modification. I feel this spring is in a position where sediment and foreign matter settle, and we are already suffering with such foreign matter passing through the filter and getting on to the low speed jet, as previously reported.
