| -2- First Day's Practice. Condition of cars at start. The race car with a full tank, the tank to be filled up to a predetermined mark. The practice car - ballast up to racing car weight with an exact quantity in the petrol tank. Programme. (1) Take the race car round 2 laps to get an idea of how it handles. (2) When it returns to the pits, quickly change the rear wheels to the practice car. (3) The practice car to put in as many laps as possible before the expiration of practice time, meanwhile the approximate consumption on the race car is to be checked at the pits by filling up to the mark. (4) It seems just possible to put in 6 laps on the practice car, which would give a very good figure for tyres and petrol consumption. Second Day's Practice. If it was found as a result of the petrol consumptions measured on the two cars that it is going to be a very close thing with the quantity of petrol available, then it is essential to find out whether two complete laps can be finished on the reserve. If, on the other hand, it looks as if there will be plenty of fuel, the only thing necessary is to be sure that the car can be changed over to reserve under racing conditions and will complete at least one lap on the reserve. | ||
