Maximum Speeds Contd.

Car. Lap Speed M.P.H.

Continental P.11 75.2
27-H.X. Body. 75.34

19-G4 Limousine. 79.68
J.1 Head. 80.72

We could not run the Continental P.11 C.O. open as it had not one. The lap speeds may all be considered on the low side as there was a great deal of wind, our own synchro-mesh 20/25's. usually lap at about 72 M.P.H.

It will be noted that Peregrine is certainly faster than the 20/25's we are now selling, whilst the J.1 is approximately 10 M.P.H. faster than these cars and 4½ M.P.H. faster than the Continental P.11 with the C.O. closed.

Peregrine behaved well at speed, but there was an indication of crankshaft period at 75 M.P.H. and above, which will be catered for in the modifications suggested in R.1/422.7.32 The car can without difficulty be run up to 75 M.P.H. on the road on down grades, and ran up to 79 M.P.H. on the track with a following wind.

19-G4, the J.1 was quite smooth at maximum speed and lapped consistently without signs of distress on L.K.S.6 14 mm. plugs. The body was almost exactly similar to the trials 20/25 that lapped at 69 M.P.H. The B.H.P. available on 19-G4. at 80 M.P.H. was 102, on the synchro-mesh 25 HP. 60 approx.

ACCELERATION TESTS.

It was established that 19-G4 represented thea average 25 HP. in weight being 36½ cwt., almost exactly the same as the trials car with which it was compared.

Side by side acceleration tests shewed that from 10-20 M.P.H. the acceleration of 19-G4 was very slightly better than the standard car, and at all other speeds very definitely so. The tests were then repeated with 19-G4. and the Continental Phantom, both cars carrying two occupants, with exactly the same results except that the difference in performance was less marked.
