re Tools under Bonnet. Bentley.

Further to our memo E.1/HP.20.10.33 we find we gave you the wrong number for the Bentley scheme. It should have been RR. Sch.415, and the correct hammer is shown in position, but is secured by spring clips. Actually although spring clips are shown in a number of places on these schemes we are agreed they are not a suitable and reliable means especially for securing such a heavy piece as the wheel hammer.

We think it will be better to use a fixing more like that employed for carrying bicycle pumps with the heavy portions carried by the solid clip and the lighter portions carried by the sliding spring plunger which should be so arranged as to avoid slack.

The tools themselves could be altered if necessary to have taper holes or taper plugs to suit this scheme. Everything should be as readily detachable as possible but nevertheless secure when returned to the chassis.

A blueprint is attached of the Bentley wheel hammer.
