X6051b. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.12/KT. August 17th, 1932. The A.T. Speedometer Co. Chronos Works, North Circular Road, London, N.W.2. For the attention of Mr. H.R. Buckland. Dear Sirs, We have now completed 20,000 miles, running, at a rate of 40 m.p.h. with the A.T. speedometer you sent to us, having a new type mileage recorder. The trip recorder, however, failed after only 16 hrs. running, but recommenced to function again after 36 hrs. but after a further 10 hrs. running it again failed for 5 hrs., after which it functioned correctly until the end of the test. Although the mileage recorder has not failed, we regret that we cannot yet agree to fitting this, in view of your statement that this mileage recorder is of the same mechanism as the trip recorder, and would therefore be likely to fail in a similar way. We are returning the speedometer to you therefore for your examination, and we should like to have a report from you as to why the trip recorder failed to function. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LTD. | ||
