contd :- -2- conjunction with DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy{William Hardy}; CWB. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} have proved that the fitting of low pressure tyres does not overcome the particular complaint which we are at present investigating on the Phantom. This complaint is the one you complained of on your own car. Also, Springfield definitely state that their suspension troubles are increased by fitting low pressure tyres. They have had considerable experience because they have been fitting them as standard for sometime. We understand Mr. Nadin should arrive in England from Springfield in a day or two and one of the reasons for his coming is because of the complaints on the Phantom springing even although they have fitted low pressure tyres. We therefore recommend that we proceed with our tests on low pressure tyres and well base rims, but we do not xr at present recommend them to customers. We [struck through text] arranged with CWB. yesterday that we would temporarily fit your own car up with semi-balloon tyres so that you can personally judge the increase in comfort. We think this is very necessary because it will confirm whether we are investigating the right complaint. There will be no risk of wobbles unless the car exceeds 60 m.p.h. As regards Wakefields oil. We have received the standardisation sheet from R.{Sir Henry Royce} for this oil and he has agreed, but adds a further note (copy of which is in his memo.) saying that he considers Prices the better oil, and also that we ought to obtain a third alternative.
