C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BENSPORT ENGINE.

I have agreed to lengthening the engine as E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} says it will not only help the cylinder block, but will help the head. This delay is much to be regretted, but it will be better than putting the Bensport and Peregrine into production at something less than the best we know.

Regarding the low speed torque of the Peregrine I think these small engines are generally deficient in low speed M.E.P. when fitted up for giving a maximum HP., that is to say, the combined thermal efficiency, high compression, and valve timing, does not favour low speed torque, and although I believe in trying everything that promises to make a more efficient car, I fear we are making too many delays in getting these two models ready for production.
